EXCOMMUNICATED #1 is out today. Again! “What?!’ you ask. Yep. There was a second printing! So if you missed it the first time around, be sure to grab it now!
We’ve got a fantastic month lined up for you with the second printing today, as well as the releases of EXCOMMUNICATED #2 and NECTAR #4! (And make sure your Local Comics Shop [LCS] orders your copy of EXCOMMUNICATED #3 before the FOC date on the 22nd.)
While you’re eagerly waiting for more Breakneck goodness, let’s talk about what kind of awesome sauce we have in store for you in the near future. When Jeremy and I started work on this comics imprint (exquisitely published by Vault Comics), we took a scattershot approach with four new story ideas Jeremy had. We initially thought they might be released as original graphic novels, and primarily sold in bookstores (although we secretly hoped the stories could be in the direct market in comic book format.) Vault were sure single issues, later collected as trades, was the way to go.
But because we didn’t know which way to go or which series might hit big, we put together a wide selection of tales between NECTAR, EXCOMMUNICATED, ONE ZERO ZERO ONE SAVES THE WORLD, and GROTESQUE. What’s more, we also got amazing Spanish artist Agustin Padilla to start work on an updated comics series for Jeremy’s amazing kaiju Queen of the Monsters: Nemesis. And what with John Wick director Chad Stahelski working on a TV streaming series for the original Nemesis novel, PROJECT NEMESIS, we thought it would be a good idea to have the comic release around the same time! At the moment, the Nemesis comic isn’t scheduled, even though all the art and color is done, and we’re just waiting on lettering. Timing the book with the TV show might be the way to go, but Hollywood, notoriously, moves at its own pace. So that book might take a while.
We still have the aforementioned ‘1001’ comic in November of this year, and GROTESQUE coming early next year. But that’s not all! Due to the runaway success of NECTAR, we’ve got our stunning art team of Annapaola Martello, Francesco Francini, and Steve Canon already working on an additional NECTAR series for next year! (Without giving anything away about the last issue of the current series of NECTAR, I can tell you that next year’s project is not a direct sequel—but rather a prequel, set a couple hundred years earlier, and the pages Anna and Francesco are turning in are gorgeous!) Plus, I just finished editing Jeremy’s script for the sequel to EXCOMMUNICATED (which will be a direct sequel to the first story). As soon as I can share anything from either of those, you know that I will! In the meanwhile, here’s a sweet taste of Tiago Palma’s artwork (with fantastic colors from Manuel J. Before I get too lost in talking about all our cool projects, I should tell you that June is a great month to meet some of the folks behind Breakneck Comics! Our amazing Social Media Manager, Vero Stewart, is also a writer, comics artist, and designer. She’ll be appearing at Heroes Con in Charlotte, NC this year from June 12-14 (Indie Island at ii-1281). Drop by, say ‘Hi,’ and get her to sign stuff for you! Next, New York Times bestselling author Jeremy Robinson will be appearing at Third Eye Comics on June 20th for a signing of NECTAR and EXCOMMUNICATED comics! I’ll be joining him on our road trip from New England down to Annapolis, Maryland, and while most people don’t want an editor to sign their comics, I’ll be happy to if you ask.
Later in the year, Jeremy and I will also be at New York Comic Con, and then in early November we’ll be in St. Augustine, Florida for a weekend we call ROBINSONFEST! A handful of us authors and a gaggle of friends and fans from around the world all hanging out and having fun for a weekend full of great food, sidesplitting laughs, boat rides, arcade games, and yes…you can even get things signed!
